The law outlines liability in a slip-and-fall accident as well as what is required to successfully secure compensation. The law also explains <strong>\u201cduty of care\u201d upon which negligence claims in slip-and-fall accidents is based<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9229\" src=\"https:\/\/grillo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Slip-and-fall-At-The-Restaurant.jpg\" alt=\"Slip and fall At The Restaurant\" width=\"600\" height=\"315\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Duty of Care<\/h2>\n<p>The most important aspect of the law states that \u201c<strong>An occupier (such as a business or property owner) owes those entering the property a duty to see that they are kept reasonably safe while on premises.<\/strong>\u201d The term \u201cduty of care\u201d means that the business owner (occupier) must act towards the general public with an established minimum of care, prudence, and attention as would any other reasonable entity or person acting in a similar situation.<\/p>\n<p>This duty of care is applicable whether the hazard is as a result of an activity that occurs on the property or as a result of the condition of the property. The law ensures the occupier does not hide behind \u201cassumptions\u201d that the building is safe. The law establishes a duty to:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 To inspect premises and remedy potential hazards such as water leaks in the restrooms, dropped menus or napkins on the floor, and dropped food.<br \/>\n\u2022 To post sufficient signs to warn of hazards such as \u201cStep Down\u201d or \u201cSlippery Floor\u201d<br \/>\n\u2022 To remove snow and ice from accessible sidewalks, parking lots, and walkways<br \/>\n\u2022 To install such safety features as high-traction flooring, non-slip rugs, security cameras, outdoor and indoor lighting, smoke alarms, stairway railing, and sprinkler systems.<br \/>\n\u2022 To hire qualified contractors and builders to build, maintain, and update safe premises<br \/>\n\u2022 To respond in a timely manner whenever a hazard is noted<br \/>\n\u2022 To prohibit access to unsafe areas<\/p>\n<h2>How to File a Claim if you Have Slipped and Fallen in a Restaurant<\/h2>\n<p>At<strong> <a title=\"Grillo Law | Slip and Fall Lawyers\" href=\"https:\/\/grillo.ca\/slip-and-fall-lawyers-toronto\/\">Grillo Law<\/a><\/strong>, we have been representing plaintiffs in personal injury claims for over 30 years.
