News: Driver arrested after deadly pedestrian crash in Mississauga

MISSISSAUGA, ON – A driver was arrested in connection with a deadly pedestrian crash that happened along Mississauga Hospital on Saturday.

The collision occurred before 11:30 p.m. near Queensway West & Hurontario Street, according to CBC. Preliminary details reveal a woman in her 20s was jaywalking across the northbound lanes when she fell off a mid-block median while going into westbound traffic. It was then that she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene but returned eight minutes later.

EMS crews rushed the woman to a trauma centre, where she later died.

Police arrested the driver. He was charged with failure to remain at a collision resulting in bodily harm, but that changed to “failure to remain at a collision resulting in death” after the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Police are actively working to determine the events leading to the crash, including whether this was an accident or whether criminal intent was behind the crash.
