News: 2 hospitalized after collision with OPP cruiser in Hamilton

HAMILTON, ON – Two people were hospitalized as a result of a multi-vehicle collision involving an Ontario Provincial Police cruiser on Sunday. 

Ontario Provincial Police told the Toronto Sun that the multi-vehicle collision occurred around 2 p.m. at the Queen Elizabeth Way and Centennial Parkway intersection. While unconfirmed by police, a Toronto Sun reporter did say that an OPP officer had activated emergency lights when they crashed into the back of a white SUV. 

The police cruiser was left with significant damage to the front, and another vehicle had side and rear-end damage. 

OPP confirmed the two people who were sent to the hospital were not seriously injured and were taken to the hospital out of precaution. 

Officials closed multiple Fort Erie-bound lanes on QEW for a majority of the day and reopened all lanes after 6 p.m.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
