News: Child, adult critically injured in multi-stage wreck on WB 403

MISSISSAUGA, ON – A child and an adult were critically injured yesterday evening in a three-vehicle crash that also shut down the westbound lanes of Hwy 403.

The Toronto Sun reports that the multi-stage crash happened just past Hurontario Street at about 5 p.m. on August 11.

Two vehicles collided in the westbound lanes of the 403 near Mavis Road and pulled onto the right shoulder so the drivers could exchange information. A third vehicle then collided with one of the cars, pushing it into two people who had exited their car and were standing on the shoulder.

Emergency responders rushed these two people to an area hospital with critical injuries. They have been identified only as a 43-year-old and a 12-year-old, both residents of the United States. A third person was also hospitalized but for minor injuries.

The driver of the third vehicle was unhurt.

All westbound lanes subsequently reopened some time later.

Ontario Provincial Police are continuing to investigate the scene.
