News: 1 dead, several injured in fiery collision on Gardiner Expressway Near Yonge St

TORONTO, ON – One person was killed and several more were injured in a fiery, multi-vehicle collision that took place on the Gardiner Expressway early yesterday evening.

CP 24 reports that the incident happened in the westbound lanes near Yonge Street at approximately 5:30 p.m. on July 8.

Footage of the scene shows that at least five vehicles were involved. A fire began in an overturned car that had become wedged between the median barrier and the wreckage other cars that had crashed into it, spreading to a nearby pickup truck. Several people could be seen scrambling out of the vehicles, though Toronto Police Acting Insp. Phil Sinclair of the Traffic Services Unit said others may have remained trapped.

A 68-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. At least four other people were taken to an area hospital, and two more were treated by paramedics at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time. We will post more information as it becomes available.
