News: 1 injured in fiery two-vehicle crash at Oro-Medonte intersection

ORO-MEDONTE, ON – One person was hospitalized Wednesday evening, May 29, following a two-vehicle crash in Oro-Medonte that caused one car to overturn and catch fire, according to Barrie 411 News.

The fiery collision unfolded at Old Barrie Road and Line 8 N, prompting a response from Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oro-Medonte Fire, and County of Simcoe Paramedics just after 5:00 p.m.

Officials have not disclosed a sequence of events leading up to the accident, but a photo taken at the scene shows a passenger car rolled onto its side, and with visible fire damage, in a grassy area beyond the roadway’s shoulder. A dark-colored pickup truck also appears to have come to a rest a few feet away in the area.

One person suffered unspecified injuries and was transported to an area hospital where their condition remains unclear.

One of the drivers, a 20-year-old Orillia resident, faces a charge of Careless Driving.

A stretch of the roadway was shut down for nearly four hours during the response and investigation.
