News: 1 seriously hurt in collision involving school bus in Burlington

BURLINGTON, ON – One person was left in serious condition as a result of a collision involving a school bus on the Burlington Skyway on Wednesday.

CTV News said the events unfolded before midnight. A 61-year-old woman was driving on the highway when her car started to experience mechanical issues. The woman was unable to move onto the shoulder, leaving her car in an active left lane.

The woman exited her vehicle and stood by a concrete wall near her car. Moments later, an on-coming bus crashed into her car and the woman.

Ontario Provincial Police said the bus driver was unable to avoid a crash.

The woman was left with serious injuries and taken to the hospital, while the bus driver, three teachers and 36 students on board the school bus appeared to be uninjured.

The school bus was coming from a field trip and heading back to school when the collision occurred. Police did not say if the school notified the students parents about the crash nor did the school district provide further commentary on the specifics of the collision.
