News: 16-year-old boy fatally hit by vehicle in Vaughan, driver charged

VAUGHAN, ON – Authorities have arrested and charged a 24-year-old driver following a crash Tuesday night in Vaughan that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy, reports CP24.

York Regional Police (YRF) said the suspect was driving a vehicle that struck the teen in the area of Martin Grove Road and Jackman Crescent, near Langstaff Road. First responders were dispatched to the scene at about 10:45 p.m., where the victim was found suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Officials continue to investigate the circumstances of the event, but initial calls made to YRP suggests the boy may have been riding or walking a mini bike at the nearby four-way stop.

The 24-year-old driver, who was found to have been “bound by a release order” for “unrelated offences” at the time of the incident, was arrested for his alleged role in the crash. Charges against them include “dangerous operation causing death, failure to stop after an accident causing death,” as well as “possession of a controlled substance.”

An investigation remains open and ongoing. Witnesses and those who may have dashcam footage or video surveillance from the time of the event are asked to contact the Major Collision Investigation Unit.
