News: 2 drivers charged, 3 hurt after crashes in St. Catharines

ST. CATHARINES, ON – Two drivers were charged, and three people were injured after two separate crashes that happened near Niagara Street on Monday.

According to CBC, the first collision took place before 7:30 a.m. near the Niagara Street overpass. A driver had made an unsafe lane change, which caused a three-vehicle crash that left one driver in serious condition. This driver was charged with careless driving.

The second collision occurred after 7:30 a.m. near Welland Avenue and involved seven vehicles, including two semi-trucks. Ontario Provincial Police said the truck driver failed to slow down for traffic, which resulted in a pile-up. Two people were sent to the hospital. One person was initially left in serious condition, but has since progressed.

Crews shut down Glendale Avenue and Queen Elizabeth Way for several hours. All lanes reopened just before 1:30 p.m.
