News: 2 juveniles sent to hospital after ATV vs. police cruiser crash in North York

TORONTO, ON – Two juveniles, ages 12 and 13, were injured Monday night in Toronto’s North York district due to a crash involving an all-terrain vehicle and a police vehicle, reports CityNews Everywhere.

Officers with Toronto Police Service were called to the scene at Jane Street and Giltspur Drive, in the area of Sheppard Avenue West.

According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), a 13-year-old was operating the ATV when it was involved in a collision with a police cruiser shortly after 10:00 p.m.

The incident appeared to leave the teen operator trapped underneath the police vehicle, and first responders with Toronto Fire Services had to perform a rescue extrication. It’s unclear at this time how the victim came to be trapped.

Authorities said a 12-year-old who was a passenger in the ATV fled the scene but was located and then transported to an area hospital, along with the teen driver, for injuries not considered serious.

At this time, the case is being handled by two investigators and two forensic investigators.
