News: 3 children killed in crash caused by speedy driver in Toronto

TORONTO, ON – Two teenagers and a 6-year-old girl lost their lives after a two-vehicle collision caused by a speedy driver Monday, CBC said.

The events unfolded around 12:30 a.m. The speedy driver, who was operating a Dodge Caravan, was taking an eastbound Highway 401 off-ramp when they lost control of their vehicle. They immediately went over a raised median and then struck a stopped Chrysler Pacifica minivan waiting at a red light.

After arriving, police declared two of the children, a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old teenager, dead at the scene. EMS crews rushed the 6-year-old girl to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Ambulance crews took three others, a 35-year-old woman, a 40-year-old man, and a 10-year-old child to a hospital as well. They are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Police confirmed that the 35-year-old woman, 40-year-old man, 10-year-old child, two teenagers, and a 6-year-old girl were all occupants of the Chrysler Pacifica minivan, while the Dodge Caravan driver was the only occupant from his vehicle.

The speedy driver, a 19-year-old man from Georgetown, Ontario, was suspected of being impaired while driving his vehicle. He “faces three counts each of impaired operation of a conveyance causing death and impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm.” He also “faces three counts each of dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.”

An investigation is underway.
