News: At least 17 cars involved in multi-injury pileup on Hwy 401 in Etobicoke

TORONTO, ON — Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a multi-injury collision on a Highway 401 entrance ramp in northwest Toronto Wednesday morning, according to City News Everywhere.

The pileup impacted at least 17 vehicles and unfolded on the westbound Eglinton Avenue West overpass ramp toward westbound Highway 401, in the Etobicoke district. It was first reported at around 7:45 a.m.

Details remain limited, but several patients are taken to an area hospital for injuries deemed not serious.

Officials had the ramp shut down to accommodate the removal of the involved vehicles, but a re-opening was anticipated within the hour of the closure.

While the cause of the accident has not been confirmed, preliminary information points to “freezing and icing conditions” as a contributing factor.
