News: At least 3 injured in multi-vehicle wreck on Gardiner Expwy, street racing suspected

TORONTO, ON — Two people were hospitalized Thursday night following a fiery crash on the Gardiner Expressway in Toronto that left at least one other person hurt, reports Global News.

Toronto Police said several vehicles were involved in a wreck that unfolded on the eastbound expressway near Fort York Boulevard, in the Niagara area, at around 7:30 p.m.

Preliminary witness testimony indicates that a Mercedes and up to three other vehicles were racing each other on the eastbound lanes when the Mercedes driver lost control, causing the car to rear-end an uninvolved vehicle, which then also caused two other vehicles to be hit.

The force of the collision caused the Mercedes to erupt into flames and become engulfed in flames.

Two people were taken to a local hospital for a precautionary assessment of minor injuries, and a third patient was assessed at the crash site before being released.

Authorities said at least one person appears to have fled the Mercedes following the crash and has yet to be located.
