News: Authorities investigate Brampton crash that left Peel Regional Police officer seriously hurt

BRAMPTON, ON — A pedestrian collision at an active crash scene Tuesday evening in Brampton left a Peel Regional Police officer with critical injuries, according to Global News.

Authorities said the incident occurred on a stretch of Chinguacousy Road that runs from Bovaird Drive to Williams Parkway.

Preliminary details show the officer had been in the area since about 6:05 p.m. for an investigation into a prior collision. The events leading up to the impact remain undisclosed, but at about 8:15 p.m., the officer was hit by a passing vehicle. The driver, who initially continued away from the scene, returned  shortly after.

First responders rushed the officer to an area trauma centre where he was later listed in stable condition.

No other injuries have been reported.

Surrounding roadways were blocked off for the emergency response and investigation.
