TORONTO, ON — A pedestrian crash Thursday evening in Toronto’s North York neighborhood as claimed the life of a 70-year-old man, according to Global News.
Toronto Police said officers were dispatched to the scene near Jane Street and Clair Road at about 7:00 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that a Toyota C-HR was heading southbound on Jane Street at the same time the victim stepped into the crossing at the intersection with Clair Road.
Authorities said the male pedestrian was struck by the Toyota and suffered “significant injuries.” He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced deceased.
It’s unclear at this time whether or not the driver, who remained at the scene, is expected to face any charges.
An investigation by the Traffic Services team remains in progress.
