News: Left-turning car fatally hits teen in Scarborough

SCARBOROUGH, ON – A left-turning driver struck a 15-year-old girl at Bridley Drive and Brimwood Boulevard, claiming the teen’s life Wednesday.

Toronto Star said Toronto police responded to the crash site before 10 a.m. This took place along Brimwood Boulevard Junior Public School in the Brimley Forest neighbourhood. Officers said the driver of a black Honda CR-V, a 44-year-old woman, had gone over an embankment before also slamming into a tree.

After the girl was hit, nearby residents rushed to the crash site to render aid to her before first responders arrived. Despite life-saving procedures, the girl succumbed to her injuries at the scene. She has since been identified as a Grade 9 student at Albert Campbell Collegiate Institute.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Any eyewitness who spoke to the source said speeding is a common occurrence in this neighbourhood.

Police did not confirm if the driver was speeding prior to the crash. Officers are in the process of pinpointing the contributing factors behind the wreck.
