MARKHAM, ON – A 78-year-old man lost his life Monday, February 17, due to a pedestrian accident in the Mongolia area of northeast Markham, according to Toronto Star.
The fatal incident took place after a weekend of heavy snowfall, near the corner of Reesor Road and Elgin Mills Road. York Regional Police officers were dispatched to the scene at around 2:50 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the man, a Toronto resident, was attempting to free his vehicle from a snowbank when he was struck by an unspecified vehicle.
First responders pronounced the male pedestrian deceased at the scene.
Officials have not shared any information about the involved driver, who stayed and cooperated with an investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the event is encouraged to reach out to the police department.
