News: Tire failure causes deadly multi-auto wreck in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, ON – A tire failure ended in a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 401 that claimed a 39-year-old woman’s life Wednesday afternoon.

Ontario Provincial Police told CTV News Toronto that a van’s tire came undone, leading it to drift into the eastbound lanes and strike a car driven by the 39-year-old woman. Once the tire hit the woman’s car, she then crashed into a transport truck.

Upon arrival, officers declared the woman dead at the scene and shut down the highway’s eastbound lanes along Townline Road.

Police launched an investigation and have not said whether the van driver will face charges.

No additional information, which includes the woman’s name, was released at this time.
