TORONTO, ON – Toronto Police confirmed on Thursday that a 39-year-old woman has died after being critically hurt due to a pedestrian crash last month in the city’s Etobicoke district, reports CTV News.
The incident occurred in the area of Islington and Orrell avenues, on the night of October 2.
Officials said a 77-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a red 2017 Toyota Corolla traveling westbound on Finchley Road. As she made a left turn onto Islington Avenue, the Corolla struck five people, including three young children, who were crossing the road on foot.
First responders rushed all five people, including the 39-year-old woman, her 45-year-old male partner, and their three children, to an area hospital.
While the children — described as a 1-month-old, a 1-year-old, and a 4-year-old — suffered serious injuries, their conditions were not deemed life-threatening.
The 39-year-old woman was listed in life-threatening condition at the time of transport to the hospital, but no information about the 45-year-old man’s condition was made available.
It’s unclear whether the driver, who remained at the crash site, is expected to be charged. An investigation remains in progress.
