VAUGHAN, ON – A 60-year-old woman, who was a live-in caregiver, died as a result of a hit-and-run collision in Vaughan on Sunday.
York Regional Police Const. Kevin Nebrija told CTV News that the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. in the area of Pine Valley and Major Mackenzie Drives.
Investigation findings reveal that the 60-year-old woman got off a bus and began walking north on a very narrow shoulder on the highway on her way to work when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
The woman’s body was found two days later in an area that was isolated and with a lack of lighting, and she was declared dead at the scene and identified as a Richmond Hill resident.
When CTV News asked why it took two days to discover the victim’s body, Nebrija noted that it could have been hard for passing drivers to spot the woman due to the grass and foliage density on the side of the road, saying someone would not have been able to see her body unless they “got really close.”
Police are actively working to find the suspect and their vehicle. Anyone with more information is urged to contact officials right away.
