News: Man, 20, charged after fatal fiery collision in Whitby 

WHITBY, ON – A 20-year-old man is being charged in connection with a fiery collision that killed one woman and sent two other people to the hospital on Sunday.

The incident unfolded before 7:15 p.m. on Highway 401, near Thickson Road, where three vehicles collided, CTV News said. Two of the three caught on fire, claiming the life of a 43-year-old woman from Kingston.

Two other people sustained minor injuries.

Ontario Provincial Police have not specified the events leading to the crash, but classified it as a “rear-end type” of crash. The 20-year-old male driver is being charged with operating a vehicle with blood alcohol over 80mg/alc in 100ml/blood, impaired driving causing death, and dangerous driving causing death. He has been identified as Jaxon Christie from Lincoln, Ontario.

Christie’s charges have not been tested in court.

Officials shut down westbound Thickson Road for several hours before reopening all lanes around 4 a.m.
