TORONTO, ON — Ontario Provincial Police responded to a serious motorcycle accident Wednesday morning in Toronto’s Scarborough district that resulted in the death of a 27-year-old local resident, according to OPP Highway Safety Division.

The collision unfolded at the ramp connecting the westbound highway to Port Union Road, near the district’s West Rouge neighborhood, shortly after 7:00 a.m.

While the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation, officials initially reported that the rider was transported to an area hospital without vital signs.

At 9:53 a.m., nearly three hours later, the Toronto OPP reported that the rider had been pronounced deceased.

All westbound lanes of Highway 401 were expected to remain blocked until about 12:00 p.m.
