News: Oshawa man charged for intentionally striking pedestrian

OSHAWA, ON – Prosecutors have charged a 28-year-old Oshawa man that police say deliberately struck a pedestrian last Thursday, critically injuring that individual.

City News reports that the incident happened at Nonquon Road and Mary Street North at about 10:30 a.m. on August 6. Witnesses say that the driver of a northbound black Volkswagen sedan crossed into the southbound lanes, accelerated, and hit a 36-year-old man who was walking nearby. The driver then fled the scene without stopping.

Emergency responders rushed the pedestrian to a Toronto-area hospital by helicopter. He is currently being treated for critical, life-threatening injuries.

Police say they found the Volkswagen abandoned nearby and traced it back to a man named Carter William Boyce. They found the 28-year-old suspect at his residence the next morning and took him into custody without incident. Prosecutors allege that Boyce knew the victim and that the attack was targeted. Boyce is facing charges of aggravated assault, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, and failing to remain at accident causing bodily harm.
