News Update: Alleged impaired driver arrested after deadly Markham wreck

MARKHAM, ON – York Regional Police confirmed that they arrested a 42-year-old woman, who was said to have been impaired, for causing a crash that ended in a man’s death Monday

New details from CTV News Toronto indicate that the 42-year-old woman, identified as Carolyn Nielsen, a Kitchener resident, had caused the collision when she veered from her lane on Highway 7 near Reesor Road and went across the centre and then struck the man in his 60s, driving a hatchback. The man died as a result, and Nielsen and the other occupants were hospitalized for serious injuries.

Initially, officers said the man was a passenger, but later confirmed he was one of the drivers.

Nielsen has been charged with “dangerous operation causing death, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, impaired operation causing death, and impaired operation causing bodily harm.”
